Art is more than canvas and color…

It’s a compass, a balm, and a rebellion.

I’m Shelby Marcell—
a mixed-media artist, storyteller, and soul-forager working in paint, porcelain, & pixels.

Born of the Pacific coast and shaped by a lifelong dance between rupture and reinvention, I create from the liminal spaces—those cracked-open places where the truth shimmers, where grief and glitter hold hands, and where something new is trying to be born.

Art wasn’t just a career choice—it’s something I arrived at through deep life transitions and soul reckonings. My path to art has never been straight—only ever real. It is how I make peace with the ineffable and the inconceivable and everything in between.

I come to this work through a long background in the healing arts, and through years spent unraveling what was never mine to carry. My compass has always been a kind of deep listening—to color, to longing, to what moves beneath the surface.

I’m a maker of vessels—literal and metaphorical. Bowls, images, and talismans that hold memory, story, and magic. I work slowly, intuitively, in rhythm with the ache and beauty of becoming. Whether it’s a hand-built cup, a richly layered painting, or a piece of digital art touched with gold, each creation is a touchstone—made to accompany your becoming.

I believe the things that are most sacred—most tender, most true—deserve a container. Especially the ones that have no place in the world we live in. In a culture that too often asks us to hurry, harden, or hide, I make space for what’s soft, luminous, and real.

Even pixels, when tended with care, can hold magic. Digital art is my way of spellworking with light—where the intangible becomes a place to rest, remember, and reconnect.

My work is for those who live in-between:
Between who they were and who they’re becoming.
Between grief and newness.
Between knowing and unknowing.

I believe art can be a compass, a balm, and a rebellion.
That beauty is not frivolous—it’s survival.
That the sacred lives in the handmade.
And that we’re all just trying to gather the fragments that shimmer, and call them home.

I have been and still am a seeker, but I have ceased to question stars and books; I have begun to listen to the teaching my blood whispers to me.
